Chain Bar Road, Cleckheaton,
West Yorkshire, BD19 3QW
Full and round with aromas of crushed red fruit, a pleasant, intense palate and hints of strawberry.
Benedict of Aniane, an adviser to Charlemagne, created the vineyard in the Gassac valley in the 780s. In 1970 Véronique and Aimé Guibert toured the countryside in the Hérault looking for a family house. Located in the heart of a beautiful wild valley, they fell under the charm of an old Mas (farmhouse) and an abandoned mill belonging to the Daumas family. They asked the opinion of a friend, Henri Enjalbert, then a professor at Bordeaux III University, specialising in winegrowing geology.
After walking in the valley for several hours, he noticed that the soil consisted of glacial sandstone, comparable to the best terroirs of the Côtes d’Or in Burgundy. He declared that there was no doubt that a Grand Cru wine could be produced here, but that they should be prepared to wait a while before it was recognised as such.
It was the beginning of a crazy challenge, one that Véronique decided they were ready to take on. And so the birth of a Grand Cru began…
Made without slightest concession to chemical fertilizers or synthetic substances. The only fertilizer that they use on their soil is a compost made from Larzac sheep manure. The grapes are manually harvested, destemmed and vinified in stainless steel tanks.
Full and round with aromas of crushed red fruit, a pleasant, intense palate and hints of strawberry.
Perfect with grills, barbeques, salad and fruit desserts.
