Chain Bar Road, Cleckheaton,
West Yorkshire, BD19 3QW
Wood smoke and leather, berry fruit and plum characters. Spicy dried fruit and wild cherry flavours, with a firm and structured finish and tangy acidity.
In 1930, Giuseppe Manfredi purchased vineyards and a farmhouse in Langhe and began to make wine. His family followed in his footsteps, and today the winery is owned and run by Aldo Manfredi and his daughters who have brought the estate up to date with modern technology and production techniques.Set in the beautiful rolling hills of the Langhe valley, the Manfredi family produces and sources high-quality Barbera d`Alba, Barolo and Gavi di Gavi. The family also has 20 hectares of prime Dolectto vineyards at its Bricco Rosso estate in Dogliani.
At Patrizi, the Manfredi family is keen to protect the environment in which its wines are created. In the vineyard chemical interventions are minimised, and in the cellar the energy used is produced by a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system that avoids the emission of tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Although not yet farmed organically, the estate is planning to convert part of its Nebbiolo vineyards to organic production.
The vines are grown on clay-calcerous soil and planting density is 4,300 vines per hectare. Green pruning is done in May and July and grapes are finally hand harvested at the beginning of October. The Nebbiolo grapes are sorted, de-stalked with special equipment, and softly pressed. The must is piped into steel tanks where it is fermented at a temperature of about 27 degrees, before it is allowed to macerate post ferment. This extended maceration on the skins and high temperature allow extraction of plenty of tannins. The wine is matured in oak barrels for 3 years before bottling.

Best drunk with hearty, gamey dishes such as beef or venison but also good with vegetables roasted in garlic, olive oil and strong herbs.
