Tokaji-Hétszolo

Aromas of citrus, elderflower, linden blossom and fresh tropical fruit notes, with elegant minerality, acidity and balance.

Producer Information

The estate was founded in 1502 as a selection of the 7 finest parcels in the region. The estate’s Hétszolo (meaning 7 parcels) and Nagyszolo vineyards were classified as premier cru in 1772. Tokaj-Hétszolo was the estate of the Hapsburg Empire, and after the fall of communism, it was the first site to attract international attention. In 2009 it was purchased by Michel Reybier, the owner of Château d’Estournel, who returned the estate to its celebrated historical glory. Through organic farming and traditional vinification, the wines of Tokaj-Hétszolo are a benchmark for Hungarian wines. They exemplify the esteemed history of the estate and the pedigree of the region.

Wine Making

Chemical use is limited by using minuscule amounts of copper and sulphur. No artificial fertilisers or herbicides are used and natural pests are managed by using predatory insects. The soils are managed with composts and diverse cover crops, with strict canopy work and management. Shrivelled, unbotrytised grapes are manually harvested, destemmed and fermented with wild yeast in stainless steel tanks for 3 weeks. Maturation takes place in the stainless steel tanks for 5 months.

Tasting Note

The nose has aromas of citrus, elderflower, linden blossom and fresh tropical fruit notes, with elegant minerality and acidity. The residual sugar and refreshing acidity give an excellent balance.

Food Matching

Ideal with goose liver or with desserts. It is also worth trying with main dishes like poultry or fish with sweet fruit sauce.
