Chain Bar Road, Cleckheaton,
West Yorkshire, BD19 3QW
Dark, roasted fruits of black cherries, red and dark plums, with liquorice, coffee and bitter chocolate.
The main seat of the estate is a splendid structure from the nineteenth century in Marsala. This historical and prestigious building is situated on the seafront, on the western coastline of Sicily and facing the island of Egadi. Baglio Antico is a nod to the architectural heritage of rural Sicily. Its design is in the architectural style of the traditional “Baglio Trapanese” which is comprised of two buildings that are arranged around a large quadrangular courtyard. Historically farmers positioned these by the sea, so they had access to trade routes. This, however, made them vulnerable to incoming attacks from the sea, so in order to protect their produce from marauders, the traders sheltered in fortified buildings or Baglios.
At Cantine Rallo the aim is to innovate but still to uphold and respect local tradition and heritage.
Organically grown grapes undergo a short maceration period of 1 week, with mixture of 40% whole bunches and 60% destemmed grapes. Wild yeast are used and there is no addition of sulphur, no fining and no filtration.
