Chain Bar Road, Cleckheaton,
West Yorkshire, BD19 3QW
Aromas of grape juice, with notes of pink grapefruit and apple, and a spiciness from the lees.
The main seat of the estate is a splendid structure from the nineteenth century in Marsala. This historical and prestigious building is situated on the seafront, on the western coastline of Sicily and facing the island of Egadi. Baglio Antico is a nod to the architectural heritage of rural Sicily. Its design is in the architectural style of the traditional “Baglio Trapanese” which is comprised of two buildings that are arranged around a large quadrangular courtyard. Historically farmers positioned these by the sea, so they had access to trade routes. This, however, made them vulnerable to incoming attacks from the sea, so in order to protect their produce from marauders, the traders sheltered in fortified buildings or Baglios.
At Cantine Rallo the aim is to innovate but still to uphold and respect local tradition and heritage.
Organically grown grapes are manually harvested and fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for a period of 15-20 days. The wine is then aged in stainless steels tanks for 6 months without malolactic fermentation. Bottled without fining or filtration and with minimal use of sulphur.
Almost chalky and opaque, this unfiltered, organic Catarratto has a wonderful nose of white grape juice, with notes of pink grapefruit and apple, and a slight spiciness from the lees.
Great with pork, veal and poultry.
