Aromas of strawberry and stone fruit, with vanilla, chocolate, coffee and Mediterranean herbs. Smooth and mouth-filling, with silky, lively tannins.
The Antinori family has been committed to the art of winemaking for over six centuries. All throughout its history, twenty-six generations long, the Antinori family has managed the business directly making innovative and sometimes bold decisions while upholding the utmost respect for traditions and the environment.
Tignanello is produced exclusively from the vineyard of the same name. It was the first Sangiovese wine to be aged in small oak barrels, the first modern red wine to use such non-traditional varieties as Cabernet in the blend, and among the first red wines from the Chianti Classico area to be produced without white grapes. The wine was originally called "Chianti Classico Riserva Vigneto Tignanello". In 1971 it became a Tuscan red table wine rather than a Chianti Classico, and was called Tignanello.
During fermentation in truncated conical tanks, each individual must was macerated on the skins. Once separated from the skins, the wine was transferred into small oak barrels where it underwent malolactic fermentation. Aging took place in French and Hungarian oak barrels, partly new and partly second passage, for a total of 14-16 months. After an initial period of aging the lots separately, they were assembled then completed barrel aging. The wine then underwent an additional 12 month period of aging in the bottle before being released.
Notes of strawberries, pomegranate, apricots and peaches, as well as vanilla, dried flowers, chocolate, and nutmeg. Coffee, caramel, and aromatic Mediterranean herbs round out the scent. The palate is smooth and mouth-filling, with silky, lively tannins that lend vibrancy, sapidity, and a long flavour profile. The aftertaste has roasted coffee and dark chocolate flavours.
A perfect wine to savour with red meats such as beef, lamb or veal.
